ABOUT THE PROJECT

Part Public Art Installation, part 'geo-caching' project, the QR Anthology is an invitation to Gabriola poets, artists, writers, as well as islanders and visitors to collaborate in the creation of an interdisciplinary, cumulative index of work that responds to island locations. The prototype was designed by Andreas Kahre for the Gabriola Institute of Contemporary Art's Public Art Map project, and is now presented in collaboration with Poetry Gabriola Society, as part of our 2016 programming.

QR codes have been part of daily life for many years, being used by pharmacies, real estate agents and concert promoters. They can be read by any smartphone with an appropriate app (which is free and easy to download), but they can do more than take you to a website. QR codes can be used to play audio files, show movies, display images, create web content filters, and display text — which can be shown as type, or read by applications such as SIRI. The possibilities are almost endless.

No Smartphone? No problem!

You can still participate by sending us your work and indicating the exact location where the code should be placed. We invite you to participate in creating an anthology of work that responds to Gabriola island's social and natural features, and become part of a community of creators that leave an invisible network of ideas across the landscape. Join us!
